True Forgiveness Can Only Come From the Lord…

From Psalm 86….

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.

True Forgiveness Is Not Fun…..

….Or easy. Or, I think, something we can do on our own. We all want justice. Revenge. We want payback. But Jesus commands us to forgive. No “Unless this” or “except for that”, or even “if they do this”. Forgive, as our father has forgiven us. In fact, in the Lord’s prayer, Jesus is instructing us to ask God to forgive us AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS. Wow – I’m in trouble……

From Matthew 18….

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?”

Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

“The servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

“But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

“His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’

“But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.

“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

Lord – please help me to truly forgive those who have wronged me, or have offended me in some way. Not to just forgive in motion – but I ask for a real change in my heart. Lord, you forgave EVERYTHING we ever did and do to you, and what has been done to me pales in comparison. Still – I cannot do this on my own. I thank you that your grace will give me strength to do that which i cannot.

Amen…..

These Five Solas

A buddy of mine started his blog, and he’s smarter than I. See for yourself: http://thesefivesolas.wordpress.com/

He delves into scriptural topics in ways I don’t, and I find his perspective fascinating. I think you will too.

Brian and I are going to co-blog on a new site (details to come – stay tuned!). He’ll bring the brains and I’ll bring the good looks. Our intent is to share how Christ is working in us, and to document our journey as disciples (sort of). We’re no experts in theology or blogging, or videography, or making podcasts. So this should go well! 🙂 out of our inadequacies, God will reveal his all sufficient grace.

Anyway, for now give a gander at Brian’s stuff.

There Is No Love In Science….

I wrote this really weird song for my new album, called “No Love In Science”. The music is really odd, and not something I normally do, or ever really listen to. But the lyric is powerful:

There is no love in science
No place in the heart for ego
Truth is not an argument
Salvation can’t be discovered

Obviously it’s a statement that our minds will not save us. Only Jesus can. Now, God gave us our minds, and the ability to think things through – but our ego often can be a roadblock to our relationship with Jesus. And – very often our ego can be a roadblock to other’s relationship with Jesus. so often we want to be right more than we want to share this precious give we have been so undeservedly given……

The verses I am reciting from are:

Psalm 14:1 – “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God”. There is no one who does good”

John 14:6 -“I am the way and the truth and the light. No one comes to the Father except through me”

John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. ”

Revelation 3:20 – “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me”.

John 13:34-35 – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Do we really love one another? Do we love our neighbors? Or are we just out to prove we are right?
