What Are You Doing Today?

Really? Wow, that’s great. Wanna guess what I’m doing today? C’mon, just one guess. No? OK, I’ll tell you.

Today is the day! I thought I’d post a little pre-wedding gift for my Sweet P, and for you. Enjoy!

Re-post – Great Post, IMO

I won’t often do this – but I really like this post by my buddy Judah. I had tried to write a post around John Lennon’s “Imagine”, and I just couldn’t get my thoughts down and ultimately gave up. Judah nailed it. Hope you enjoy!

Since God So Loved us…..

From 1 John 4:12 – Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Lord, you have shown us how you love us – yet we can’t fathom how deep, how wide, how high your love is. Let us love others as you love us, as best we can. For your glory, in your Son Jesus’ name.

If You Love One Another….

I love this verse, from John 13:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Given that it’s V-day, and I am quite smitten with my girl, I thought I’d talk about our love a bit. But you may ask “how does that tie into the verse you presented”? Well, that is a good question! One that I can answer (one of not many).

My Sweet P and I started dating over five years ago. Of course, I was infatuated with her, and we quickly fell in love. And – that fire burned for a long, long time – still does. I think that is cool.

But – as our relationship progressed, our love remained “superficial”. Not to say we didn’t really love each other – we did, and do. We just didn’t know how to REALLY love each other. To love in action, to lay down our lives for each other, as Jesus commands. For context of the love Jesus is talking about, read John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” And – he did just that for us……

But I did not know how, or want to do this for Phyliss. I wanted to love her with fun things. With romance. With words, and songs, and flowers. All good things – but if you don’t lay down and die for your wife, all those other things will die and rot.

And they did…. And she would not be my wife…… God taught me what it means to REALLY love your wife in a very difficult, painful way. I’m thankful that he did. And I pray every day that I never forget what it means to really love one another. This applies to my kids, my family, my friends, my co-workers, and the guy who cuts me off in traffic. This absolutely applies to how I am to love my wife.

So, as we embark on this marriage together, I pray for God’s grace and strength to die daily for my wife, to lay my life down, and to love her as Christ loves his bride the church.
