He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
Have you ever been in a situation where you were wrongly accused of something? How do you respond to something like that? If you’re like me, you want to defend yourself. You want to clear your name. You want the world, and certainly the accuser to know that you are better than that, to justify yourself, and maybe even have them apologize. Or worse – to suffer the same kind of persecution…….
Jesus tells us to live differently. To bless those who persecute you. To basically lay down your life and die, when every ounce of your being wants to get back up and win – not for his glory, but your own. Something we just don’t get. I know I don’t……
Jesus, I know you call me to lay down my desires to win an argument, to be right. It’s not about my glory, but yours. Help me Lord, to be a fool for the sake fo the Gospel, so others can see your glory and know you, and know your love as I do. Help me to have the humility you showed those who were persecuting you, beating you, mocking you, spitting on you, calling for your death. Help me to cry out in my heart “Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing!”
