Ain’t Gonna Hide No More Review #4 – You Drew Me

Ain't Gonna Hide No MoreI wrote this song, first as a poem, back in April.  You can read this post to see it.  It was inspired by Jesus’ statement in John 6, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him”.

This means, if taken literally, that we really don’t get to CHOOSE.  We do choose, sure (we’ve been given free will), but only by God first drawing us to him.  This is amazing to me!  Not because I can’t believe it – but because this is so awesome on so many levels!

1. God loves us so much, that HE chooses us – not the other way around!  And remember – WE are the ones with addictions, depression, selfish desires, hatred, discourse, disobedience, entitlement, pride, etc.  He loved us when we hated him – so much truth…..

2.  If God draws us to him – he won’t let us go.  We don’t have the power to fall away, if he drew us to him.  We may fall – often (very often, some times)….  But greater is He who is in us that he who is in the world.  That is truth….

I know this will get many people’s panties in a bunch.  The whole “election vs free will” debate.  But before we go there – let’s go back to that verse in John 6.  Let’s meditate on that a while.  And let’s marvel at What God has done!

Ain’t Gonna Hide No More Review #3 – Truth Is

Ain't Gonna Hide No MoreThis song was originally one of my “simple songs”.  I had a cool little riff in the middle, that shuffled, and this was going to be an acoustic “skiffle”-y type song.  It turned out different as I started laying it down.  I really like how it turned out!

Lyrically, it’s all about the fact that we actually condemn ourselves, when separated from God.  God gave us a way to be redeemed – a free gift, not to be earned by our deeds or “lack of sin”.  Those who reject that gift are not condemned by God, so much, as they chose their own damnation.  I could be theologically off here, or at least taken to be – I don’t mean that God doesn’t condemn sinners to hell – he does.  I mean that sinners KNOW they are sinners, yet love their sin more than God, so in a way, they CHOOSE to condemn themselves.

A lot of food for thought, discussion, maybe even correction on my part.  Happy to hear you out if you have any input.

Second truth is, for those of us who are in Christ, NOTHING can separate us from his love.  We cannot become OUT of Christ.  We “could” have never been in Christ, but we could not be in Christ, then separated.  We don’t have that kind of power.  But he has the power to keep those he’s called.

It’s all mind-blowing.  It’s all thought-provoking.  It’s all controversial, by the world’s eyes.  But the fact that NOTHING can separate us from the love of Christ is ALL KINDS OF AWESOME!

I’ve got a few songs on this new recording that are in this vein.  I truly hope they spark discussion, in some way.  Please, please, please reach out to me, if at all you want to discuss, want to call me an idiot, want to call my theology whacked, want to give me a hug, whatever.

For now, here is the link to the song.  Hope you enjoy!

Lastly, here is a link to Romans 8 – read this, give me a call.  We’ll have dinner.

Ain’t Gonna Hide No More Review #2 – When The Man Comes Around

Ain't Gonna Hide No MoreThis is a wonderful song by Johnny Cash.  I remember the first time I heard it, being a pagan and not really listening to the lyric, I thought Johnny Cash was “the man” he referred to.  I love how bold Mr. Cash was with sharing his faith in song.  That is what I aspire to do with my music.  That, and the awesome shuffle in this song, was what compelled me to do a rendition of it.

I will not pretend my comes close to touching the original – but I do enjoy it.  I hope you will as well.  And if you haven’t considered the message in this song – please do…..

Here are the lyrics for you:

There’s a man goin’ ’round takin’ names.
An’ he decides who to free and who to blame.
Everybody won’t be treated all the same.
There’ll be a golden ladder reaching down.
When the man comes around.

The hairs on your arm will stand up.
At the terror in each sip and in each sup.
For you partake of that last offered cup,
Or disappear into the potter’s ground.
When the man comes around.

Hear the trumpets, hear the pipers.
One hundred million angels singin’.
Multitudes are marching to the big kettle drum.
Voices callin’, voices cryin’.
Some are born an’ some are dyin’.
It’s Alpha’s and Omega’s Kingdom come.

And the whirlwind is in the thorn tree.
The virgins are all trimming their wicks.
The whirlwind is in the thorn tree.
It’s hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Till Armageddon, no Shalam, no Shalom. Then the father hen will call his chickens home.
The wise men will bow down before the throne.
And at his feet they’ll cast their golden crown.
When the man comes around.

Whoever is unjust, let him be unjust still. Whoever is righteous, let him be righteous still.
Whoever is filthy, let him be filthy still.
Listen to the words long written down, When the man comes around.

Hear the trumpets, hear the pipers.
One hundred million angels singin’.
Multitudes are marchin’ to the big kettle drum.

In measured hundredweight and penny pound.
When the man comes around.

Ain’t Gonna Hide No More Review #1 – Life May…

Ain't Gonna Hide No MoreA little over five years ago, I was in Kansas City with my son for a Twins game.  We encountered this woman named Karen, who was holding a sign asking for money.  I actually saw her on the corner, pulled my car over and forced my then 8 year old son to come with me.  I was going to share the Gospel with someone!  I was a young Christian, and this would be the first time I could share the love of Christ with someone!

Funny thing is, she shared the Gospel with me!  I was so overwhelmed with her joy, in spite of the things she and her husband were going through.  It was truly humbling.

I’ve had a heart for those who are forsaken, lost, ignored, looked down upon, considered a burden, for quite some time.  God has pressed on me that I need to stop just “thinking about it”, and DO.  So I thought of this woman, as she was my first actual encounter with someone who was homeless.  She was the first person God used to show me that there is more than just “giving a dollar or two” – that people NEED to feel loved, accepted, worth a damn….

But Karen KNEW she was worth a damn, to God.  So my goal lately has been to show others they are too.  That God so loved THEM, that he gave his only begotten Son….  I’ll talk more on this in another post.  But this song was just me remembering how alive this broken woman was, how she knew her identity in Christ, even in the midst of her circumstances.  God is so good……

Ain’t Gonna Hide No More…

Ain't Gonna Hide No More    This is my new record.  It’s done, in the can, available for sale.  By “for sale”, I really mean, for download.  All eight songs.  You can download, for whatever price you name.  I “hope” you go free – I don’t often like to take money for my songs.  However, I promise that ALL money donated will be given to someone who does not have a home to live in.  All of it.  So – just do what you must.

Anyway, this is the record!  I really don’t know how to describe it.  Please give  a listen, and let me know how YOU would describe it?  Here is the link to listen, download, pass on to your friends, whatever your little heart desires.

The title and cover idea came from some little thought I had over the summer.  I have spent a lot of my life in “fear”.  Fear, really of failure, or being a fool.  So I would hide.  This can be anything from re-screening my patio door, to sharing the Gospel.  Well – I’m done with that.  The train tracks were just the image I had, of going on a long “walk”, on train tracks – just see where it takes me.  I am still planning on doing this.  Maybe I’ll write about it when I do.  Until then – please enjoy my newest offering.
