For this bunch, I did three songs, two of which I had never heard before (still haven’t), just loved the lyric. So I wrote music to go with them. I’m still learning to use my new recording setup, and some of this was done in different locations. I’ll break it down for you.
The Ransomed Sinner
This is a re-working of an old hymn called “Arise My Soul Arise”. I took one verse, made it into this soft little ditty, a praise to my God and King, Jesus Christ. I love the words in this song, the reminder that while we were still sinners – Christ died for us! It is nothing I did – all him….
Just me on acoustic guitar and vocals. I tried to keep this one simple and clean.
Abide With Me
This is a re-working of a hymn as well. I tried to capture a “Buddy Holly” feel, with the jangly guitar and slapping my knee to keep rhythm. My sister in Christ Liz Ahrendt sang a harmony with me, sounds really sweet! This is one of my new favorite recordings, just because it was so fun!
I love the lyric, as it reminds me of John 15, Jesus talking of the vine and branches. It reminds me of my desperate need to abide in Christ, and his promise that if I do, he will abide in me…
I recorded much of this in my studio. But Liz’s vocals, we did in the library at church. And I re-did my vocals in our basement living room, as my studio is being rebuilt as we speak (I’m excited! I’ll post on that later!)
As the Deer
This one is a bit more straight forward, with one exception – I made the third verse into a chorus. I did this by accident, some years ago. I didn’t know. Remember, I was a pagan until just seven years ago. Didn’t know. But I loved it, so always kept playing it that way.
My wife doesn’t like the odd vocal effect I have. I will probably re-mix this one at some point, because I like to make her happy. 🙂
I recorded this one in my basement living room, I’ll post a pic later of how that is looking.
I have some other hymns in the works, will plan to put at least one more of these out for you. I hope you enjoy listening to them, as I do making them.
All my love, and God bless you!
