Wow…

Today we went to a leprosy hospital. We started the morning spending time with children from the area. I taught them how to sing “Jesus Loves Me” in English (most don’t sing English). Thankfully, someone translated, so they understood what they were singing.

Then our teens did a skit depicting the Gospel. Very moving… Watching them re-enact the crucifixion… I was praying the whole time. One of the teens shared the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ after. Awesome! Almost every child prayed to accept Christ! No idea how many were saved – but the Lord knows… By name…

Then we handed out Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We as a church have been involved with this program. I think Dylan even packed a shoebox some years ago. Seeing the faces of the children as they opened them though… Breath-taking… I will never think of that program the same…

Then, we visited the residents of the hospital, and handed out clean sheets for their beds. This was so very amazing, and it’s humbling that God would use us to show love to the unloved… I will talk about a couple beautiful people I met in two future posts.

Lastly, we visited a community where some people live who have leprosy, but want to be more independent. There was a woman there, who’s roof leaked so horribly, that when it rained it would not only drip but RAIN on her head as she tried to sleep. Some of my brothers replaced her roof, and even put a roof on her bathroom – something she did not previously have…

This woman is blind, and missing parts of both hands. Yet she cooks for herself, and cleans, and makes it out to her outhouse bathroom through a barbed wire fence! Oh my Lord – her bed had holes in it. She told someone on the team that at night mice come out of the holes on her bed and crawl around the bed as she tries to sleep…

So much poverty… So much helplessness… Lord, You are bigger than all of that… And You showed up today. This woman now has a roof over her head, over her toilet. She will have a new bed very soon. I pray she has a new life in Christ soon as well…

More to come. I’m overwhelmed…
