I heard a quote from Dr. James White, that I find to be so true…
“Once we are unable to identify sin, we no longer have a need for a savior”.
If we are not sinners, who did Jesus die for? The first step in the Gospel is recognizing our moral depravity. This is not meant to beat us down, or shame us. It’s simply truth. We know it. Why do we deny it?
…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus (Romans 3:23-24)
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us (1 John 1:8-10)
On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Matthew 9:12-13)
