Who Is This King of Glory?

Official - I Must Become Less 5

King of Glory

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
    and established it on the waters.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
    Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
    who does not trust in an idol
    or swear by a false god.

They will receive blessing from the Lord
    and vindication from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
    who seek your face, God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, you gates;
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,
    the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty—
    he is the King of glory.
Psalm 24

The opening song of my new record is called King of Glory.  It’s inspired by Psalm 24, listed above.  It’s a declaration that Christ is LORD.  Christ is the King of Glory!  Christ is YAWEH, God Almighty!  It’s an “anthem”, if you will.  A great opener to a record I intended to be less about myself, more about the Lord.  At least I hope it comes off that way…

This song is one of only two where I play all instruments and sing all parts myself.  A pattern I’ve followed for a few years now.  I’m glad I was given opportunity to work with many talented folks this go around – but this song just happened to be one where I did all the parts myself.  It was the first one I completed, mixed, mastered, and become my “benchmark”, from a sound perspective.  Maybe even setting the tone of the record – both sonically and emotionally.

I toyed with the idea of writing more words, to fill out the verses.  But then as I thought about it, “why”?  Why add more?  Why try and put “my touch” on it?  It’s a praise song, more words would not add to it in any way.  So I kept it as it is.  Praise God, He is the King of Glory!
